Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
BJP senior leader Shishir Bajoria has alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is selectively targeting Marwari, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Bihari voters while ignoring concerns about alleged illegal voter enrollments from Bangladesh. Bajoria stated that the West Bengal government is focusing on individuals who have migrated from other Indian states instead of addressing irregularities in the voter list. According to him, this selective approach is unfair and politically motivated.
Bajoria, along with Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and 14 BJP MLAs, submitted a letter to the in-charge of the State Election Commission, raising concerns about the Chief Minister’s alleged interference in the electoral process. Adhikari accused Banerjee of overstepping her jurisdiction by instructing Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) on voter list-related matters. He also alleged that she had directed election officials to accept certain "packets," implying bribery. The letter further claimed that Mamata Banerjee’s recent comments regarding voter lists were illegal and beyond her authority. Bajoria also accused TMC of conducting closed-door meetings across the state to push for the removal of specific voters from the electoral rolls.
Adhikari further alleged that the Chief Minister was intimidating AROs and District Magistrates (DMs) during her speech at Netaji Indoor Stadium. He claimed that TMC was calling for the removal of "unwanted names" from voter lists and accused Mamata Banerjee of targeting Hindi-speaking voters and the Matua community. Regarding voters from Haryana and Gujarat, Adhikari stated that the Election Commission had already clarified discrepancies in voter ID cards, dismissing the Chief Minister’s claims as false. BJP leaders have urged the Election Commission to intervene and ensure a fair electoral process.
